Michelle Daly DeSchryver : Creative Hobbies

Michelle Daly DeSchryver is a freelance photographer who enjoys all things creative. From composing the perfect photo to making beautiful ceramic artwork, she’s always delving into something new.

As a mother of two working as her own boss, Michelle Daly DeSchryver leads a busy life. Regardless, she makes time for her creative hobbies. If you’d like to bring more creativity to your life, hobbies like those below will help point you down the right path:

• Gardening When you garden, you work with living plants to create beautiful (and sometimes tasty) arrangements. From a planter inside to a long-abandoned backyard, you can garden anywhere. Start with a few plants in containers from your local nursery and, if possible, attend a gardening class to learn what works best in your climate.

• Journaling Though journaling might seem best left to the kids, the act of writing your thoughts, feelings and ideas offers amazing benefits. Journaling daily or weekly can help you clear your mind, reduce stress, solve problems and learn more about yourself.

Start with twenty minutes per day and, if you’d like creative inspiration, locate a list of journaling prompts online to follow. For example: “Why do you want to be more creative?”
If you’re not sure what you’d like to create, consider taking a page from Michelle Daly DeSchryver and enrolling in a ceramics class or traveling your city and taking photos. Remember, you never know what you’ll love until you try it!

Michelle Daly DeSchryver : Traveling with Kids

Michelle Daly DeSchryver is a mother of two. She’s also self-employed and often travels with her kids by her side for work. It might sound chaotic, but traveling with your little ones doesn’t need to be (very) stressful. As adventurous parents like Michelle Daly DeSchryver know, a bit of preparation goes a long way. Tips like those can make exploring the world with your kiddos fun for everyone involved:

• Pick Destinations Together: Kids are known for changing their minds in moments, but if you pick destinations with your little ones, they’re more likely to embrace the experience. If you have a country in mind, look at kid-friendly activities and ask your children what sounds like fun. You’ll have a list too long in no time.

• Go Slow : You might enjoy breezing through a new location, but this can overstimulate even the most outgoing child. Go slow, take time to see the sights and don’t rush your little one across town just because that amazing museum is closing soon.

Depending on how old your children are, you may also need to stay close to the hotel for naps, which means breaks in exploration, but that’s okay. You might even enjoy taking naps with them so you’re both rested. Before you and your children hit a new country, like Michelle Daly DeSchryver has done with her kids, help them learn to enjoy travel with local sightseeing and exploration.

Michelle Daly DeSchryver : Trips for the Photographer

Michelle Daly DeSchryver is a mother of two who enjoys active, creative hobbies. She frequently combines two of her favorites – photography and travel – into amazing experience. Global trips enthrall photographers like Michelle Daly DeSchryver. If you’d like to see what’s so addicting about adventure photography, pick an exotic location and check it out. The destinations below are just a couple of millions:

• Mawsynram, India  Located in North-Eastern India, Mawsynram is a village in the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya. With a reported forty feet of rain annually, Mawsynram is known as the wettest place on earth. Unsurprisingly, the annual rainfall presents unique challenges and beautiful solutions. Bridges, for example.

Instead of traditional bridges that would quickly decay, Mawsynram villagers have trained the roots of rubber trees to grown into stable, living walkways. If you’re willing to explore to find one, you’ll be rewarded with once-in-a-lifetime shots.

• Cocoa Beach, Florida Florida’s Cocoa Beach offers a unique experience during summer months. At night, as manatees swim and birds feed, life in the water is accompanied by a soft, aquamarine light.

The light is known as bioluminescence and it photographs beautifully. Few earthly sights elicit the wonder of a glowing, crashing wave at sea. If Florida isn’t in your itinerary, bioluminescent bays can be found worldwide.

When you travel, take a hint from photographers like Michelle Daly DeSchryver and look beyond the lens. Sometimes, the best experiences happen when you set down the camera.

Michelle Daly DeSchryver : World Travel Destinations

Michelle Daly DeSchryver is a freelance photographer, an international traveler, a mother of two and a marathon runner. Thanks to her self-run life, she explores exotic locations around the world and makes a living with her adventurous spirit.

•    Cenotes of Mexico : The cenotes of Mexico are natural sinkholes or pits, often located in lush jungles sporting crystal blue waters. These beautiful bodies of water have attracted travelers and locals since the time of the Mayans, when some were used for Mayan sacrificial offerings.Today, popular Mexican cenotes like the Ik Kil Cenote in Yucatan are hotspots for adventurous travelers seeking a cool dip and striking photos with a taste of rich history.

•    Kolmanskop, Namibia : Kolmanskop, Namibia, is a handful of miles away from the Laderitz port. Once a diamond mining town, Kolmanskop was abandoned in 1956 in favor of richer sources. Any photographer who spends a day in Kolmanskop leaves with surreal pictures of desert-filled homes and haunted shots of long-forgotten belongings.

Michelle Daly DeSchryver plans to continue exploring world travel destinations for years to come. Where will your next adventure take you.

Michelle Daly Deschryver: How to Take the Best Waterfall Photos

A freelance photographer for more than a decade, Michelle Daly Deschryver has found success by venturing into nature photographer. Recently, she was on a nature trip when she happened upon a waterfall. Like any good photographer, she went to work and to her surprise, the feedback from her website visitors (where she posted the photos) was amazing.

As Michelle Daly Deschryver knows, capturing a waterfall is not quite easy. Natural waterfalls aren’t always easily accessible, which impacts the best place to take a photo. Still, the following tips can make life easier.

Rainy season

Often, the best time to capture a waterfall at its best is after rainfall since the water flows strongly and helps to make the surrounding foliage and moss much greener. Cloudy or overcast days, when the light can compensate for the rough contrast between the flowing water and surrounding environment, make for good shots.

Get there early

Unless the waterfall is somewhere remote, there will be other people looking to enjoy the sight. This can mean jostling with others for a good spot to take photos, or having to crop out people from your photo afterward. To avoid all this, be an early bird. However, you can also use people to your advantage, as they can provide context to the image.

Be creative

On many occasions, waterfall images tend to focus on one aspect, the waterfall. You can go the extra mile and be creative, like making the moss-covered rock next to the waterfall the center of your photo. As Michelle Daly Deschryver knows, it makes the photo more interesting and gives a sense of flow to the water.

Michelle Daly-DeSchryver – Choosing Your Next Travel Destination

Michelle Daly-DeSchryver is a freelance photographer based in Reno, Nevada, but she frequently travels around the globe for her passion. She’s taken pictures on almost every continent, and is particularly fond of heading off the beaten path to find untouched natural beauty to photograph. With so many interesting places in the world to explore, it can be difficult to choose a travel destination that will provide her with both plenty of photography options and an amazing experience when she isn’t working. Here’s how she narrows down her travel options.

  • The first factor Daly-DeSchryver considers when choosing a new travel destination is finances. It’s important to travel in a way that is cost-effective. Therefore, she often browses travel websites to find sales and deals. Sometimes, choosing an inexpensive flight to a place that she’s never been before results in an amazing experience and beautiful new photos.
  • Another important thing to consider with travel destinations is similarity to places that she’s been in the past. If she recently went to a warm, beachy destination, she’ll consider an urban trip or a trip to the mountains. This variety keeps things interesting and exciting.
  • If a flight isn’t in the cards at the moment, consider driving or taking a bus to somewhere exciting that’s close to home. You may never have realized just how many interesting things were located so close to you, and if you fall in love with this new place, it will be so easy to go back.

Michelle Daly-DeSchryver – Favorite Hikes in Reno

Michelle Daly-DeSchryver loves to hike in her free time. She lives in Reno, Nevada, where there are plenty of amazing hikes in the nearby mountains. As a freelance photographer, she particularly loves to bring her camera on hikes so that she can take pictures of the beautiful natural surroundings. With so many hikes nearby in the Reno area, it can be difficult to choose the best ones. Here are some of Daly-DeSchryver’s favorites.

Mount Rose is located just ten miles south of Reno in the mountains, and has incredible views of Lake Powell that have provided Michelle Daly-DeSchryver with many great photography opportunities. There are also beautiful scenic spots full of pine trees and even a waterfall. Although it is a full day hike, spanning ten miles, it is very pleasant with only a few switchbacks near the top.

For an easy quick hike that she can take with her children, Michelle Daly-DeSchryver enjoys Tahoe Meadows. This is located near Mount Rose, but is a short one-mile loop that is full of beautiful foliage and even some animal wildlife. If you’d like, you can make the hike a little more difficult by heading up a hill towards the end to take in some mountain views.

Diamond Peak is another trail in the same area that is widely considered a favorite by local hikers. It is a full-day hike with only moderate difficulty, and crosses through beautiful woodsy scenery to the stunning views at the peak, where you can take in Lake Powell.

Michelle Daly-DeSchryver – How to Succeed as a Freelance Photographer

Michelle Daly-DeSchryver is a freelance photographer based in Reno, Nevada. She shoots a huge variety of content, ranging from wedding, commercial, real estate, and athletic photography to nature and animal shoots. She has traveled to a huge number of places around the world for her photography projects, and is extremely passionate about the work that she does. Becoming a freelance photographer is difficult, because the work is very competitive and there are many other people pursuing the same projects. However, there are some strategies you can use to jump start your business.

Consistently practice your craft. The best way to improve and develop new skills is to keep working, so if you don’t have any projects at the moment, create some so that you will have something to put your energy into and stay inspired by. If you have the time and money, take classes or attend seminars from photography experts, and read photography books.

Think outside of your box. Find jobs that you wouldn’t normally take on, and challenge yourself to succeed at them. This will help you broaden your portfolio, which will impress clients in the future and help you stand out.

Plan out your schedule every week. As a freelancer, it can be very easy to slip into the habit of being unorganized, which leads to an unproductive working climate. If you plan your schedule ahead of time, you’ll get more done, and you’ll also be able to enjoy your free time more.

Michelle Daly-DeSchryver enjoys her work as a freelance photographer.

Michelle Daly-DeSchryver – Three Ways to Find Commercial Photography Clients

Michelle Daly-DeSchryver is a freelance photographer based in Reno, Nevada. She graduated from the University of Nevada and immediately started to look for any jobs in which she could practice her art. Over time, she developed enough skills and a network that allowed her to start looking for clients on her own. Her career as a freelancer had begun. Early on, and even continuing now, she has found many clients that need her skills for commercial photography. Here are three ways to find commercial photography clients:

  • Judge your portfolio. Take a long, hard, emotionless look at your photography portfolio before you start showing it to any companies. Looks for pictures that showcase your ability to capture people and things that could be used for ads. For example, a man on a sandy beach isn’t selling anything, but a man listening to music on a waterproof device on the beach… there’s a product there.
  • Research and seek out local clients. Michelle Daly-DeSchryver and other freelancers seek out local clients first because it’s easier to meet in person with their representatives. The chances are also higher that they will keep feeding you work in the future if they know you live close and are reliable.
  • Actively market yourself. Too many freelance photographers sit by their phone and wait for clients to call. Michelle Daly-DeSchryver learned early on that if she was going to find commercial photography clients, she was going to have to reach out and find clients regularly. Make a point to reach out to clients and market yourself directly to them as often as possible.

Michelle Daly-DeSchryver still lives and works in Reno.
